For my NCAA bracket men’s basketball bracket this year, I have Kentucky as one of the two teams that will be in the national championship game. At this point in the tournament, there is no doubt in my mind that they will go to the final four. Here’s Why: Their star player, forward PJ Washington is back from injury, this is a player that is good enough to put this team over the hump. Tomorrow night they play the Houston Cougars, a match up that is almost even on paper. However, because these teams rank so evenly statistically, Kentucky’s clear size advantage will be what can ultimately secure the win for them.
Once Kentucky beats Houston tomorrow night, they’ll draw the winner of the North Carolina Auburn game. I believe North Carolina should win that game and then I believe Kentucky will beat them. Why? When these two teams played teams played earlier this season the Wildcats destroyed the Tar Heels on the boards, with 12 of those boards coming on the offensive side of the floor. This 8-point win was done at a neutral site, now the teams will meet at a neutral site once again. If Auburn does so happen to win to play in the elite 8, Kentucky will go in with a clear mental advantage from the tip. The Wildcats have beaten Auburn twice already this season. In the second of the two meetings, Kentucky beat the brakes off the Tigers, winning the game 80-53. Look at it anyway you want, it’s pretty tough to bet against the Wildcats going to the final four.
