Ten of NYCFC’s key players were called up for International duty. During the week that these players were called up, NYCFC was lucky enough to not have any matches scheduled.
The ten players called up were:
- Sean Johnson
- Jonathan Lewis
- Alex Callens
- Maxime Chanot
- Ronald Matarrita
- Alexandru Mitrita
- Anton Tinnerholm
- Ismael Tajouri-Shradi
- Keaton Parks
- Juan Pablo Torres
“You never know what will happen but you have to change the focus quickly, because their training in the national team is different and they’re training for two games in seven days,” Dome Torrent said to MLSSoccer.com, “When they come back here, you have to adapt quickly into our competition. It’s not easy.”
While I agree that the players had different training and need to focus and be ready MLS style, I’m not sure if I completely agree with not having most of those players available to play this Friday.
With so many of the players being key players, such as Shradi, Callens and Mitrita, I wouldn’t consider them completely out. They are coming off from playing games while the players who didn’t get called up have only been training. This can be an advantage for them.
Dome has a lot of good players coming back. He needs to use them and finally get a win, considering every game so far this season has ended in a tie.
NYCFC is going into Friday night’s game against Toronto FC with a clean bill of health. If the players are healthy, I see no reason why they can’t be put into their usual starting XI or substitutes.
