Another year, another low-ranking Gonzaga team chokes in the NCAA Tournament. Texas Tech moves on to the Final Four for the first time in program history. Yes, a lot of programs would trade theirs to have Gonzaga’s success. But doesn’t it feel like the Zags should have broken through and have a title in their rafters by now?
The experts like Andy Katz were really adamant when it came to this year’s team. And at this point, it’s just hard to pick this program to go far in your bracket. Bridesmaids, but never the bride.
Gonzaga Year-by-Year Finishes:
2018: 4-seed, Sweet 16 finish
2017: 1-seed, NCAA Championship Runner-Up
2016: 11-seed, Sweet 15 finish
2015: 2-seed, Elite 8 finish
2014: 8-seed, Round of 32
2013: 1-seed, Round of 32
Since Mark Few took over the helm in 1999, the Zags have made the Big Dance EVERY season the last 20 years. Before their big let down in 2013, they only made it as far the Sweet 16 three times, losing in the first and second round those 10 other seasons. I could see the Gonzaga hype this year, only being two years removed from getting so close to the title. But nah, I just don’t buy this team will ever win it all!
Sorry Gonzaga, playing in the West Coast Conference only gets you exposed at the end of the year.
