And then there were 8…

With the 2019 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament nearing its close, let’s take a look at the final 8 team remaining.

3 #1 seeds remain with Duke, Virginia and Gonzaga. UNC was bounced last night in the second to last matchup of the Sweet Sixteen versus Auburn. A truly great showing by the Tigers in the second half allowed them to rally and defeat the top seeded Tar Heels and become the lowest seed remaining in the tournament. I don’t expect this to stay that way for long as they have to now go up against their Conference rival and Powerhouse Blue Blood, Kentucky. Especially, with the loss of Sophomore Forward Chuma Okeke to an ACL Tear abut half way through the second. Chuma had just begun to get his grove as he had 20 points in the limited time of action in this game, while shooting over 72% from the field. Although this may help motivate Auburn as they can rally behind the loss of their strong forward.

After that we have 2 #3 seeds remaining with Purdue and Texas Tech in the Southern and Western sides of the brackets with their victories of #2 seeded Tennessee and Michigan respectively. Purdue winning in exciting fashion, with an OT thriller to knock off the Vols 99-94 and Texas Tech taking the opposite approach with the absolute thrashing of Michigan 63-44.

As for the remaining #2 seeds comprised of coach Calipari’s Wildcats and Tom Izzo’s Spartans it safe to say that these two teams will give Auburn and Duke a run for the their Money.

My prediction is Duke, Virginia, Kentucky and Texas Tech to fill out the Final Four.
